Master bathroom
The master bathroom is currently under construction. They started off working kind of straight through, but now it seems like the pace has slowed a bit. But that's fine because we're in no rush, and the bulk of the really hard stuff is done.
Here's what's been done so far:
Moved the lighting from the ceiling (2 can lights) to over the mirrors
(they installed the light fixtures upside down, but we got that fixed)
We also had a can light installed over the tub/toilet area and over the shower area (but I don't have a pic)
Removed the drywall from the shower area and installed a bench seat

Cement board installed in the shower
Bathtub prep and framed in for a window over the tub
Plumbing stuff for the tub
Tub installed and tested for leaks
Things were going smoothly until this point. Then they started work on the plumbing for the shower and there were obstacles of course. They ended up having to dig to China to get the shower plumbing fixed. At one point, you could barely walk in the bathroom for all the dirt piled up in there. If you're a neat freak, don't do major construction in your house. Nothing stays clean. But in the end the plumbing got done right, and they hauled all that dirt out and cleaned it all up. Things were progressing so slowly that I lost interest in photo-documenting every single day.
In the meantime, we got a standing desk for my husband and built a desktop for it. We ordered the frame from a company here in Austin called UpLift Desk. You can get the complete setup, with beautiful desktop, but it's expensive. So we just ordered the frame/uplift part and built our own desktop and it cost about half the price. Like I've mentioned before, I've gone through a building-furniture phase so I have all the tools and some small fraction of the know-how in building things. We went to (say it with me) Home Depot and bought 4 pieces of 2inx12inx8ft pine lumber and used my Kreg jig pocket hole doo-dad and made a 3ftx7ft desktop. So far it has not toppled over or broken in half.
(I hope this video works - it's very exciting)
We are about to put our current house on the market, so I've been busy doing things. Cleaning/decluttering, throwing away inordinate amounts of trash, scrubbing baseboards and doors, power washing patio and walks, staining the redwood pergola, windexing the interior and exterior of the ground floor windows. It's been a blast, and my family has really enjoyed my attitude. The current project is replacing some of the grass in our drought-stressed, chinch bug-laden front yard. I'm sure the neighbors are thrilled. Sad thing is, it actually looks a little bit better to me like this.
We're hoping to get it on the MLS sometime next week. And we're hoping to get a contract on it within 24 hours so we don't have to keep showing it! Hey, I can dream!
So completely in awe of the desktop! I'm sure that your current house will leap off the market in no time. It's the perfect time of year to sell, and there doesn't seem to be any sort of slowdown with the constant influx to Austin.
ReplyDeleteI am sure it will sell soon too. It is a great house.
