The long-neglected laundry room (and other stuff)
I think I sanded the cabinet boxes in the laundry room right before my sister came out to visit in early December. And then they sat and sat and sat. Now that the bathroom is nearly wrapped up, I decided to stop neglecting the cabinets. This room needs lots of help, but it already has beautiful Shadow Storm granite countertops and the cabinets need to be beautiful too.

When I started to paint the kitchen cabinets, I did a lot of internet research about what to use. Then I went to the Benjamin Moore paint dealer and talked to the guy who was working. He spoke very highly of my paint choice, Benjamin Moore Advance. He also dished out some other Really Good Advice. He recommended that I purchase a microfiber roller and a Picasso brand paintbrush called "The Bull." Yes, that is really its name. Mine are well used by now, and pictured below. I highly recommend them.
For cabinetry, these have been invaluable. The brush really helps leave a no-drip finish, and the microfiber roller makes the paint as smooth as it can be. In fact, I went back and purchased an additional microfiber roller so that I can paint on consecutive days. When I wash it out (with hand soap), it takes a little longer to dry than most rollers - so I needed 2 to always have a dry one on hand. Disclaimer: these guys were not cheap, but they weren't any more expensive than the really good brand brushes/rollers are.
Also, we would have gotten nowhere on this project if it weren't for the people working in Home Depot and the paint stores. They are always helpful and always full of information and Really Good Advice. Except for the high school age guys who work there. Don't ask them anything, they don't know.
In other news, we have started to think about picking out floors for the downstairs. The tile/carpet combo is coming up (can't WAIT to use a sledge hammer again!) and engineered hardwood is going down. I got a bunch of samples from Lumber Liquidators, and these 4 are the favorites. Actually the 2 on the right are the same (I must have really like that one bc I ordered it twice!), so really these 3 are the favorite.
The top left is Capstone Grey beech wood, the lower left is Beartooth Mountain oak, and the 2 on the right are Chase oak. My husband likes the one on the lower left, and I like the top left. Our eldest daughter (who thinks herself a co-parent/adult) chimed in that she likes the one on the right. Of course I win, but his favorite on is more $$ so I win again. :)
