The Underwriter has gone DOWN

Two days ago we got notification that we passed top secret government security clearance, and The Underwriter has approved us for a mortgage! He definitely takes his sweet time. That was about 50 days from the time we made our initial offer. I guess it's time to get the digits and set up that dinner date.

We're set to close a week from today. So what do you do when you're about to close? You make a trip to the paint store.

Yep, that's 8 different paint samples. I'm not even sure that our newly acquired tiny house has 8 rooms total. Oh, that stuff to the left of the paint? That's a cleaner that's recommended for cleaning the kitchen cabinets before you paint them. I didn't acquire the white paint samples for the ceilings, wood trim, and kitchen cabinets. That's another trip and another set of nearly half a dozen samples from the paint store. Yes, there are that many shades of white. And yes, I expect to be on a first name basis with the people at Sherwin Williams by the time this is all over. I'm meeting all kinds of new and interesting friends.

My next stop was at the septic supply store. It's located across the road from the dump. True story. What an interesting place. I'll leave it at that.

It's been 6 years since we bought a house. Sometime in the interim, check writing became inadequate for closing on a house. In other words, leave your checkbook at home we're not taking your stinkin' check. I got explicit instructions on how to wire the closing funds to the title company "to prevent a delay of 1-3 business days." I guess banks are so busy thoroughly investigating their mortgage applications that they can't fund your checks on time. Sheesh.
