Now what?
Now we've reached the part of the house buying process where the drama dies down (at least I hope so!). We've waived the rest of the option period, so now it's time to get into underwriting and appraisal territory. Do y'all know how much an appraisal costs these days?! When my dad used to do them, full appraisals were in the $250-300 range. When we bought our current house 6 years ago, I think we paid around $400, maybe $450. Today, they're $540 y'all. And not just that - they want to be paid up front. Front street. Won't do it without the $$$. My dad used to get paid most of the time when the closing happened. They'd just roll the cost into the mortgage. Go to appraisal school. They are big time business now y'all.
The appraisal should take 3-4 weeks. When it's done, we should be ready to do all the other stuff and schedule a closing. That's assuming that nothing comes up. Nothing will come up, right?
