Kitchen progress
Let's recap:
Door removal
Shelf paper removal
Post-cleaning, pre-sanding
Post-sanding
Primer
Primer on the doors/drawer fronts
1st coat of Benjamin Moore White Dove
Paint on the backs of the doors
For the record, there are 28 doors and 15 drawer fronts. I've watched all the movies in my iTunes library while I've been working. That's about 30 movies.
Bonus: I think we're going to have to get all new hinges for the cabinet doors. When I took them down, the hinges were old and rusty. I'm sure that it won't be any problem to replace hinges from 1993, right? It'll be horribly dissatisfying to get to the end of the painting phase and not be able to put the doors up and see the final product.
In the meantime, my Craigslist habit has been seriously curtailed.

You can spray paint the hinges! Seriously. We did that 14 years ago and they still look fine. Just give any rust a slight sanding, and you're good. We are facing the cabinet door repainting this winter. It's time. And I'm dreading it. Also, last year I chose to change the hinges on the bathroom cabinets. They look exactly the same, and not one fits the opening the same way anymore. It's a conspiracy.
ReplyDeleteSERIOUSLY. Paint the hinges. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT attempt to replace them. It is a nightmare that never ends. I have filled holes, added more filler, tried shims, moved the hinges... the damn things are STILL NOT RIGHT.
ReplyDeleteSpray paint the old hinges.
It's a good thing.
