New countertops!

No photos yet, because they go in Monday. But I'm very excited!

I picked soapstone for the kitchen. I love it. This is not the exact slab, but it's called Porto Alegre from Brazil (because the slabs are named for the location where they are mined) and this is the first photo that the Google found for me. I don't know why I love soapstone so much. It's probably because I was a chemistry major in college, and this is what I'm conditioned to think all countertops are supposed to look like.  I'm sure now they have some cool new-fangled material that they invented for lab countertops that can withstand being blown up, but my chemistry labs were built back before the periodic table was finished and I liked the countertops.

I had originally wanted soapstone for all countertops in the UF, but it is very $$$ to do that. So for the laundry room and bathrooms I picked out something in granite.

This is Shadow Storm Granite. It sounds like a superhero name. That is not why I picked it, but it might have been in the top 2 reasons that I liked it. This is the exact slab that I picked at the countertop store. The slab-holder operator told me that each slab weighs about 15 lb. per sq. ft. You never know what you'll learn from a dude operating heavy machinery.

I will have lots of photos on Monday. Also, I'm excited about putting the doors back on my cabinets and installing the cabinet hardware. It's the little things.
