Welcome to the jungle!
Current status of the UF is: waiting for countertops to be installed. Once that happens, we can put the cabinets all back together and move on with our lives. In the meantime, I started trying to hack my way through the overgrown jungle that is the backyard. It clearly hasn't seen a pair of hedge trimmers in many years. Everything is overgrown, cluttered, inaccessible.
I don't have any good before pictures for comparison. The yard was definitely something we were just looking past, knowing that we could clear it out or get our yard guy to go take care of it. It was not picture-worthy. Thank goodness, because there are an awful lot of during and after photos.

In addition to all the creatures that we adopted from the front yard, we have a whole host of other stuff we inherited in the backyard. One was the gigantic water fountain that was sitting right on top of the septic tank. I dismantled it and hauled it away with a wheelbarrow. It was so heavy that I couldn't be arsed to try to get it out, so there's the wheelbarrow too. There are 2 decapitated owls, a head of a deer, a rooster, a bunny, birdbath, grandchildren's handprints and footprints in concrete, an entire birdhouse neighborhood.

The entire railing of this deck was covered by overgrown vine. They had painted parts of the vine white. Instead of, I don't know, say - removing the vine.

There is an entire jungle of bamboo. I may kill everything else in our yard trying to keep this stuff from growing back. And I'm OK with that.

This was the first time we were able to see that little cedar fence back there. And where the edge of our driveway is. And where the property line is.

The cactus doesn't have large spines, but do not touch the cactus. I learned the hard way.

Bamboo.

My mom came to visit and she cleared out a lot of the beds, especially the ones right next to the house.

See, it will be a nice yard once we find it.

Don't touch the cactus though.

Oh my! You really did make some good progress in the yard. Did you dig up the bamboo, or opt for a cut and poison approach?
ReplyDeleteI saw mom's cactus injury. Brutal.
