Kitchen photo essay

I went over to put the cabinet hardware on the doors and drawers yesterday. 8 hours later, all done! (Yes, 8 hours!) I had no idea it would take that long to do that, but it did.

The kitchen is finished! Well, almost. It still needs a backsplash, wall paint, ceiling/trim paint, lighting repair, etc. But I still feel a great sense of accomplishment.

The backsplash tile will be a white subway tile. I've got a black and white graphic cement tile to do a decorative bit above the range oven. Since we plan to replace the range with a slide in version without that part that sticks up (with the knobs on it), I'm going to center the graphic part according to the new (as yet unpurchased) appliance. In other words, it won't look right until the new unit lives there. However, we're going to wait until one of the appliances dies and then we'll replace them all. Place your bets on which one it will be. My money is on that microwave/oven combo thing. I'm pretty sure it's original to the house.

Also, I mentioned previously that my new countertops and I decided that the cabinet hardware needed to be black. But after discovering that the nickel hardware we had already purchased was past the return date, we decided that we like the nickel. :)
